How I Survived Being a Girl is a very poorly written, sorry-excuse for a coming-of-age story about year-old Carolyn who acts like a two-year-old.

Sandwiched between two brothers, she thinks she should act like the boys and shuns dresses, frilly bows, and dolls/5. The thing I like about it is that Carolyn, the main character, is a tomboy and by being it written in first person, you can see what it's like being in her shoes.

It's the kind of book any year-old girl can relate to; and make you not feel alone, and it's great for any year old girl to read who's curious and confused about the world 4/5(15).

Caroline survived, How I Survived Being A Girl is about a 12 year old girl, that thinks its weird to be a girl. All her neighbors are boys, besides the girl that wears mary-janes, (shoes). The book talks about Caroline, (the main character), and what she dose in summer and in school.5/5(5).

Either situation might make a girl think she wants to be a boy while what she really wants is to be allowed to act like one.

"How I Survived Being A Girl" isn't a preachy book though. Van Draanen remembers what it was like to be a girl and describes it very accurately/5(15).

After I read the book I felt like I was Carolyn, the girl. Everything takes place in a little neighborhood. Carolyn, the main character, tells you about her life being a tomboy/5(12). How I Survived Being A Girl is a story about a young girl named Jane who has always been best friends with a guy named Charlie.

But when they enter middle school at sixth grade, everything changes. Jane finds out that being best friends with a guy is not acceptable to middle school society. Carolyn is a girl with strong opinions. On being a girl: `stupid.” Wearing dresses: `only when forced, and then with shorts underneath.” Summer nights: `make you feel invincible.” Girls with MaryJanes: `no use at all.” The boy next door: `I do not have a crush on him!” The top bunk: `for really great dreams.” Stuck with two.

Apparently this book is supposed to be about a young tomboy coming to terms with being a girl, but that part is so deeply hidden I have to wonder if it got left in the author's notes somewhere. How I Survived Being a Girl Wendelin Van Draanen No preview available - /5(3).
